As you may be able to see from other posts on this site, I love writing about movies. But one angle of film criticism that I’ve been able to explore as a student of both film and music is the use of music in film. In a music history course that I took in 2013, I got to write an analysis of the use of Sergei Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto in the 1945 motion picture “Brief Encounter”. It was a lot of fun to research and write, and I consider it one of the best papers that I have ever written. Check it out below!
